The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced the hiring of Derek Clancey as assistant general manager player personnel. Clancey joins the Maple Leafs after spending the past two seasons with the Vancouver Canucks, where he served as assistant general manager.

Prior to his time with the Canucks, Clancey spent 14 seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he held various roles within the organization's hockey operations department. Clancey was originally hired by Ray Shero in 2007 and advanced within the organization, eventually becoming the team's director of player personnel in 2014.

Clancey was the first person hired by Jim Rutherford when he became Canucks president of hockey operations in 2021. In his two seasons with the Canucks, Clancey helped oversee the team's player personnel decisions, including the drafting of Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes.

The Maple Leafs are hoping that Clancey can help them improve their player personnel department and build a team that can compete for the Stanley Cup. Clancey is a well-respected executive with a strong track record of success, and he is expected to be a valuable addition to the Maple Leafs front office.
