Early Life and Career
Rory McIlroy was born in Holywood, County Down, Northern Ireland, on May 4, 1989. His golfing talent was evident from a young age, and he went on to win several amateur tournaments before turning professional in 2007.
In 2009, McIlroy won his first European Tour event, the Dubai Desert Classic, and finished third in the Open Championship.
Major Championships
2011 U.S. Open
In 2011, McIlroy won his first major championship, the U.S. Open, by eight strokes. He became the youngest winner of the U.S. Open since Bobby Jones in 1923.
2012 PGA Championship
The following year, McIlroy won his second major, the PGA Championship. He became the first golfer to hold both the U.S. Open and PGA Championship at the same time since Tiger Woods in 2000.
