Illini Family Helps DC Aaron Henry Deal With 'Very Hard Week' After Sister's Death

Henry returned to action Tuesday in a loss at Indiana and scored 17 points with 5 rebounds and 3 assists

Aaron Henry’s younger sister, Grace, passed away last week. No cause of death has been released. Aaron was close with Grace, and her death has been a difficult loss for him.

“It’s been a very hard week,” Aaron said. “I’m just trying to take it one day at a time and get through it.”

Aaron's teammates and coaches have been supportive, and he is grateful for their help.

“My teammates and coaches have been really supportive,” Aaron said. “They’ve been there for me every step of the way.”

Brad Underwood said the team is doing everything they can to support Aaron.

"We're just trying to be there for him and let him know that we're here for him," Underwood said.

Aaron said he is grateful for the support of his teammates and coaches.

"It means a lot to me to know that I have people who care about me and are there for me," Aaron said.

Despite the loss of his sister, Aaron is determined to finish the season strong for his team.

"I know that Grace would want me to keep playing hard and keep fighting," Aaron said.

Aaron said he is going to channel his grief into his play.

"I'm going to play as hard as I can for her," Aaron said.

Aaron's teammates and coaches are confident that he will continue to be a leader for the Illini.

"Aaron is a tough kid," Underwood said. "He's going to get through this and he's going to be a better player for it."
